Ordering Wine at Noon – Why not?
When moving abroad to a totally new country, culture, and way of life…one learns to become an expert observer (or voyeur, whichever you prefer). I spend many hours in the day being an observer as I walk down the streets, in my primary classrooms, and looking out my window (a very Spanish thing to do!) Here are a few of my favorite Voyeur Moments –
October, 2018 – On Wednesday’s, I finish my school day at noon. Walking home, I decided to treat myself to a café con leche to warm up, as it was a chilly, moody day in Spain. Reason #651 I love living in Spain ~ lovely old men (and women) dress up in their finest clothes to go to the bar and drink wine at 12:30 in the afternoon. Note to self…next time, skip the coffee and order wine!
Every morning in Spain – Learning to embrace that it is perfectly acceptable to eat churros and chocolate for breakfast. I don’t partake in churros and chocolate every morning, but I have been known to enjoy this delicious Spanish treat on more than one occasion.
November 2017 – So it was (yet another Spanish holiday) and so I thought I’d run a couple of errands around town. Living in Spain is a constant learning process, and this day was no exception. Number one, running errands on a holiday does not equal success. Number two, Spanish people follow rules when dressing for the seasons, I apparently do not. I thought that I was doing a fairly decent job of fitting into my new environment, but on this day, I am fairly certain I looked like I didn’t belong. It was sunny and warm, 70 degrees warm in November is AMAZING, so I left my house wearing a skirt, t-shirt, and flops (of course!) EVERYONE was dressed in sweaters, jackets, and even boots.I was pretty sure this was some kind of prank as I walked around town. I thought to myself, what do these people wear in winter???
